Introduction to PAYE
If you are an employer you normally have to operate PAYE as part of your payroll. PAYE is HMRC systems to collect Income Tax and National insurance from employment.
Each time you pay your employees through payroll you need to make deductions for PAYE, it’s a complex area and the implications of getting it wrong are costly.
Payments to your employees include their salary or wage, tips, bonuses and statutory sick or maternity pay. From these payments you’ll need to deduct tax and national insurance for most employees. Other deductions you may need to make include student loan repayments and pension contributions.
Your business will need to report your employees’ payment and deductions to HMRC on or before each payday.
