Typically a company that is a PSC/Person with Significant Control of another company
The company will need to appoint a Relevant Officer who will need to verify their identity with Companies House. This Relevant Officer will be responsible for verifying the identity of the RLE on the register and they will need to do so through Companies House’s own verification process.
Below is a breakdown of the process:
1. Identifying the Relevant Officer:
The RLE must identify a natural person who will serve as their Relevant Officer. This individual will be responsible for fulfilling the verification requirements.
2. Verification:
The Relevant Officer can verify their identity using the Direct Verification with Companies House. This involves creating and using GOV.UK One Login and verifying their identity using digital ID: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/verify-your-identity-for-companies-house
3. Providing Information:
When verifying, the individual will need to provide details from their identity documents and confirm the checks have been completed to the required standard.
4. Notifications and Updates:
The RLE must notify Companies House if the identity of the Relevant Officer changes.
5. Personal (Unique Identifier) Code issued to be provided to Treetops as soon as possible:
Provide Treetops via email (at [email protected]) with the code which is issued at the end of the process. IMPORTANT: If we do not have a copy of the code, we will be unable to make Companies House submissions on your behalf after Autumn 2025. The code will look something like:
XY1-Z000-0000
6. Compliance:
Failure to comply with the identity verification requirements is an offence, punishable by a fine issued by Companies House.
